Zac Efron, 36, was hospitalized after a “minor swimming mishap” during his vacation in Ibiza, Spain.
Sources indicate that the incident happened when Efron dove into the pool at his villa and hit his chest on the bottom, which led to him inhaling water into his lungs.
TMZ initially reported the news, which was later confirmed by a source to People magazine on August 5.
After showing signs of distress in the pool, villa security pulled him out. Though briefly disoriented, he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. X-rays showed that no water remained in his lungs, and he was given the all-clear to leave. He chose to wait until the paparazzi dispersed before leaving the hospital.
A representative for the former Disney star later assured that he is “fine.” On August 4, Efron used Instagram Stories to update fans, expressing that he is “happy and healthy” following the incident.
He shared a photo of himself working out on an exercise ball and thanked his followers for their well-wishes.
On the work front, the actor known for 17 Again is set to star in a Disney+ remake of the 1987 comedy Three Men and a Baby, which is currently in preproduction.
