Why Did Jeff Gordon’s First Marriage Fail?
Gordon has had two marriages. After winning the first of two qualifying races for the 1993 Daytona 500, he met Brooke Sealey, a Miss Winston Cup model, in the victory lane at Daytona International Speedway. They started dating in secret because there was an unwritten rule that said drivers couldn’t date models.
Sealey’s role as Miss Winston ended at the end of the 1993 season, and the couple’s relationship was made public at the NASCAR Awards banquet in December. Before the 1994 Daytona 500, exactly a year after meeting in victory lane, Gordon booked a banquet hall at a French restaurant in Daytona Beach and proposed to Sealey there.
On November 26, 1994, they got married. They used to live in a house on Lake Norman in North Carolina, but they had to leave for good when fans broke in. Then, they moved to Florida’s Highland Beach. In March 2002, Sealey sued Gordon for divorce after he did something wrong in the marriage, and Gordon eventually sued Sealey back.
Gordon’s wife, who also went by the name Jennifer Brooke Gordon, said in her divorce papers that her husband was seeing a professional model named Deanna Merryman. She asked for in court papers “The couple’s $9 million oceanfront home, as well as alimony, two cars, and occasional use of their boats and airplane, are all part of the deal.
Gordon said that Sealey didn’t deserve to get so much money because he “risked life and limb” to get it, but Sealey said that “NASCAR is a pretty safe job.” In the end, Sealey was given $15.3 million. On June 13, 2003, they were no longer married. During the year, Gordon was seen on a beach in St. Bart’s with model Amanda Church. They later moved in together in New York City.
